Hawaii Dolphin Swim

After living here on the Big Island, Hawaii for two years, I had learned a lot more about how to spend time with my beloved Spinner dolphins in their space. For example, just float on the surface and wait for them to approach. If one comes over to look at me or initial play, I will swim slowly next to them and follow their lead. Sometimes s(he) would swim circles around me and I just spin around to follow, keeping eye contact if possible. Once a while, one will come carrying a leaf and drop it in front of me. I interpret that to be, “want to pick it up?”. Spinners have many ways of carry a leaf or passing it from fin to fluke, or to another dolphin in the pod. There are some foolish human who will tell you not to bring leaves into the water, claiming it carry bacteria. These human need to spend their time and take issue with toxic spray that the County is using on weed which eventually filters down to the ocean. There are many other contaminants they can work on preventing entering our pristine ocean.

I usually swim to the general area where I see the pod, and wait. I can tell if the pod is moving slowly side by side each other, then they are sleeping. and I just float and watch. Ifi you see me in the water, I usually hold my arms out in front of me. My hands are sending them Reiki. There had been several pairs of mother and child both wounded by Cookie Cutter Shark who came back to me time after time. I am convinced that they feel the healing energy. It is a shame that NOAA had chosen to ban human from dolphins (the “proposed” law shall prohibit human presence within 50 meters of a dolphin. If they wise up to the real scenario, i.e. dolphins love being with us, at least those of us who knows how to behave. They could change path to EDUCATE the public of the proper behavior rather than barricade! As you see in the photo, I keep my distance. Contact NOAA and voice your opinion on this matter.
